Doug Scott, Director of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), will be at Kishwaukee College on Friday, October 27, from 1 – 1:50p.m. in Jenkins Auditorium.  Scott’s appearance is part of a semester-long series of guest speakers in instructor Karl Kahler’s Political Science 240, State and Local Government class.  Kahler lines up guest speakers that constitute a veritable who’s who in local and state government each semester he teaches the POLS 240 class, giving students a first hand look at how the state and local municipalities are run.  Because of Scott’s position, Kahler has opened the presentation to any interested community members.  The event is free.

Governor Rod Blagojevich appointed Doug Scott to the position of Director of the IEPA in July 2005.   The mission of the IEPA is to oversee environmental quality in such a way that is consistent with the overall social and economic needs of the state.  The IEPA focus is to safeguard the health, welfare, property and quality of life of the citizens of Illinois.

Scott, a native of Rockford, served as the Assistant City Attorney and City Attorney for Rockford from 1985 to 1995 and then as a State Representative for the 67th district from 1995 – 2001, during which time he was the chair of the House Urban Revitalization Committee and member of the Energy and Environment Committee. In 2001, he began a four-year term as the mayor of Rockford, which he complete prior to his IEPA appointment.
